Atkinson Handed Cup Tie

Martin Atkinson

MARTIN ATKINSON will be the man in the middle for Stoke City’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie against League Two side Coventry City.

It will be the first time the official has taken charge of the Potters in the competition since he oversaw City’s fourth round victory at Rochdale three years ago.

The West Yorkshire based referee has presided over 16 games during the 2017/18 season, dishing out 58 yellow cards and four reds.

In fact six of those cautions came during Atkinson’s only City fixture of the season when he officiated the 3-0 loss to Liverpool at the bet365 Stadium in November.

The referee’s most recent outing came at the end of 2017 as he oversaw events at Vicarage Road between Watford and Swansea City, the latter running out 2-1 winners.

Assisting Atkinson at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday will be Matthew Wilkes and Nick Greenhalgh, with Paul Tierney acting as fourth official.
