Manager on Sam Clucas' return to full fitness...
GARY ROWETT says summer signing Sam Clucas will be ready to make his first appearance for the Potters in Saturday’s clash against Nottingham Forest if called upon.
The former Hull City and Swansea City attacker has yet to feature for his new club having battled his way back to full fitness following knee surgery in May.
The 28-year-old was however named in a matchday squad for the first time last weekend against Middlesbrough as he edges ever closer to pulling on the red and white shirt.
Speaking to stokecityfc.com Rowett believes that while Clucas may be a little rusty at first, he’s confident that the ex-Mansfield Town man will quickly get up to speed.
“I think he’s ready,” Rowett expressed. “He’s never going to be 100% match fit though because he hasn’t had that match exposure for us yet.
“We had the opportunity to play him in the U23s last Friday but didn’t because he was involved in the first team squad the following day. We had the chance again yesterday to involve him with the youngsters but he’ll be involved in the squad on Saturday.
“It’s a difficult one really at the moment because we don’t want to take him out the squad to put him in an U23s game for 60 minutes with the reality of that being that those games don’t really resemble a first team game in terms of their intensity.
“He will probably end up coming off the bench or starting a game not quite fit but I don’t think that will bother Sam, he would just be glad to get out there.
“It’s great to have him available, he’s look good in training and he’ll be desperate to get his opportunity.”
