Midfielder content with tiggerish role...
JOE ALLEN says he is more than happy to do the dirty work in midfield if it means the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri continue to flourish in the Stoke City attack.
The duo have been two of the Potters’ standout performers this season and once again played a key role in last weekend’s draw against Leicester City.
Allen’s persistent nature saw him win possession on the halfway line before laying the ball into the path of Shaqiri who burst forward and curled home his seventh goal of the season at the King Power Stadium.
The partnership between the two has seen the Swiss playmaker in particular enjoy his most productive campaign in front of goal since his arrival in 2015, whilst also being a key source in terms of chances created.
However much of his success can be traced back to Allen’s steely determination in the middle of the park, a role that the Welshman is happy to fulfil.
“My job has never changed since I started playing in the Premier League,” Allen told Premier League Productions.
“I do what I’ve always done in midfield and I think you have seen in recent weeks how well (Xherdan) Shaqiri has played and my job as a watercarrier is to get the ball to the likes of him so he can do his magic - that doesn’t and hasn’t changed.
“I think the great thing recently is he has become more consistent and you can really see the benefit of that in matches, he’s got that quality to really turn a situation around.
“He has been the difference in certain games for us this season and there is no shame in saying, that at times, he has been or is the man who will either score of create the chances for others to win games.”
