Norwegian supporters salute late great goalkeeper…
THE NORWEGIAN Branch of the Stoke City Supporters Club have honoured the late great Gordon Banks – with a Knighthood.
The England World Cup winner passed away in February aged 81 without having bestowed with the honour that many feel his legendary status in the game deserved.
So the Norwegian fans have taken matters in their own hands … and at their annual meeting over the weekend agreed they would award him a posthumous Knighthood.
They also approved the creation of a commemorative shield, which will be presented to Gordon’s son Bob ahead of the Potters’ final Championship game of the 2018/19 season against Sheffield United on Sunday.
The inscription of the shield reads:
Forever our hero
Sir Gordon Banks 1937 – 2019
