Hughes Hopeful On Cameron

Geoff Cameron

MARK HUGHES is hopeful of having Geoff Cameron available for selection against Southampton this weekend.

The United States international hasn’t featured for the Potters since suffering a hamstring injury during the first 45 minutes of the Potters 2-2 draw with Manchester United earlier this month.

However, speaking to the press on Friday morning, Hughes confirmed the defender is fast closing in on a first-team return.

“We are hopeful on Geoff Cameron, which would be a big positive for us,” the Welshman said at his pre-match press conference.

“In terms of the defensive injuries we have, he is realistically the only one who has a genuine chance of taking part.

“Kevin Wimmer hasn’t trained yet, so it would be a risk to include him at this stage, especially with the injury only occurring nine or 10 days ago.

“We will have a look at the shape of the team today and then make a decision, but thankfully if Geoff is available, along with Kurt returning, then we will be in far healthier shape in the central positions.”

Hughes has however confirmed Bruno Martins Indi is facing a short spell on the sidelines after the Dutch international sustained a groin strain during the latter stages of last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea.

“Bruno is out for a number of weeks, unfortunately,” he added.

“He injured his groin during the last 15 minutes at the weekend so we are going to be without him this weekend.”
