Hughes Targets January Acquisitions

Mark Hughes

MARK HUGHES has confirmed the Club are targeting several new acquisitions during the January transfer window.

The City boss admits he is desperate to add to his injury depleted squad next month as he looks to lead his side to a more productive second half of the season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Hughes said that talks have already taken place regarding potential new arrivals, with both loan and permanent deals on the agenda.

“There have been conversations about a lot of players - some have been permanent talks and others loan deals,” he stated.

“Sometimes players are frustrated by a lack of game time and want to get out in January, so we are well aware of who is available.

“There is nothing definite at the moment, but it is clear that we are too stretched at the moment and ideally we would like to rectify that.”

He added: “We all know that January isn’t the ideal time to get deals done, but there are opportunities and we would like to be active - we feel there are areas that we need to strengthen.”

Meanwhile, Hughes says he will be reluctant to sanction any outgoings next month despite media speculation suggesting Joe Allen could be the subject of interest from several fellow Premier League sides.

“It is the first I have heard of that, but it wouldn’t surprise me because he has been impressive this year,” he added.

“We can‘t afford to lose a player of Joe’s quality - he is working exceptionally hard for us and we are really pleased with what he is producing for us at the moment."

“We won’t be encouraging any bids for any of our key players, especially not in January, that is for certain.”
