Ipswich No Pushovers - Shawcross

Ryan Shawcross

RYAN SHAWCROSS has highlighted the importance of showing Ipswich Town all the respect they deserve at the bet365 Stadium this weekend.

The Potters are preparing to play host to Paul Lambert's Championship strugglers bidding to chalk up a second successive home victory, on the back of a 2-1 triumph over Derby County last month.

Whilst the Tractor Boys make the long journey from Suffolk having tasted victory just once this term, Shawcross believes that they will still provide a stern challenge in North Staffordshire.

Speaking to the latest edition of #pottersmag, the skipper said: “They may not be in the best position in the league but in Paul Lambert they have a manager who you would expect to turn their fortunes around.

“We know exactly what to expect from them having worked with him and his coaching staff during the second half of last season.

“We were aggressive, we were pressing teams well and we made it incredibly difficult for sides to break us down, and Ipswich will do the exact same thing against us.

“He will have them right up for it and we will have to match them for effort and endeavour and then believe in the quality we have in order to get through the game with the points in-tow.”

Shawcross has nothing but praise for the way that Lambert and his coaching staff handled themselves during their short stint at the bet365 Stadium.

“Although we didn’t stay up I really enjoyed working with him and his staff,” he added.

“I liked the way he coached, I liked the way he managed and to be fair to him and his staff they set us up really well.

“Unfortunately we just weren’t able to get those extra four or five points which would have kept us in the Premier League.

“Paul though, together with his coaching staff, Stu (Stuart Taylor) and Jim (Henry) had a massive influence upon the place during their short time here and we hold them all in high regard at the Club.”

Make sure you get your hands on the latest edition of the Club’s award-winning matchday publication prior to kick-off this Saturday afternoon.

Priced just £3.50, the 84-page perfect-bound publication will be on sale from sellers situated around the stadium as well as inside the bet365 Stadium Superstore.
