Kostas Checks-In

Kostas Stafylidis

STOKE CITY have completed the signing of Greek international left back Kostas Stafylidis on loan for the remainder of the season.

The highly-rated 24-year-old joins the Potters from German outfit FC Augsburg and is the Club’s second signing of the January transfer window after Moritz Bauer checked in from Rubin Kazan in a permanent deal.

Stafylidis is no stranger to English football having spent the 2014/15 season on loan with Fulham, for whom he made 38 league appearances.

Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Having played in Germany himself, Paul Lambert is a keen observer of the Bundesliga and I know he has been impressed by what he has seen of Kostas in action for Augsburg.

“We have moved quickly to add to our defensive resources by bringing him to the Club and we’re delighted to have secured his services until the end of the season.”

Stafylidis launched his career in his home country with PAOK but came to the attention of German side Bayer Leverkusen after producing a number of eye-catching displays at the 2012 European Under-19 Championships.

He stayed on loan for another season at PAOK and ultimately only made one league appearance for Leverkusen. After his spell on loan with Fulham he joined Augsburg in 2015 in a permanent switch and has clocked-up 40 appearances for them in the Bundesliga.

Stafylidis made his senior international debut for Greece in 2012 and currently has 21 caps to his name.
