Lambert: Media Talk Won't Faze Butland

Jack Butland

PAUL LAMBERT believes Jack Butland will take talk of a big money move away from the bet365 Stadium in his stride between now and the end of the season.

Media speculation surfaced on Tuesday evening suggesting the England international had expressed a desire to leave the Club during the summer months.

However, Lambert was quick to highlight the fact that the stopper had already played down such suggestions, and said that he fully expects him to play a key role in the Potters’ fortunes over the coming weeks and months.

Speaking to the local media this week, the Scotsman said: “I only heard about the story this morning and that Jack had quashed the rumours as such.

“He is one of the best goalkeepers going around, in Europe terms as well. Without a doubt the boy’s a terrific goalkeeper, a good lad as well.

“Does it surprise me that rumours fly about? Not really, because rumours fly about all good players and he’s one of the best."

“He’s too good a guy, too good a pro to be affected by any talk. He’s been terrific since I’ve been here and as a person he’s been great too.”

Lambert also revealed that the 24-year-old had gone even further up in his estimations having worked at such close quarters with the stopper over the past month.

“I have admired Jack as a professional, like many others, for quite some time but you’re never quite sure until you work with somebody - what they are like as characters," he added.

“But Jack has got every attribute there, both as a professional and as a person too.

“He’s good with the ball at his feet, he’s a good kicker of the ball and he’s got the height and presence. He’s only a young lad as well with probably the best years in front of him."

“A good goalkeeper is worth their weight in gold. They can be a major difference between success and failure.”
