Lambert Rues Lack Of Luck

Paul Lambert

PAUL LAMBERT put on a brave face in the wake of his side’s undeserved defeat in North London on Sunday afternoon.

The Scotsman was eager to highlight the positives of his side’s impressive showing at the Emirates Stadium, despite being frustrated by the circumstances leading into the Gunners’ decisive first goal.

Referee Craig Pawson dramatically changed the direction of the game 14 minutes from time when he pointed to the spot, despite Bruno Martins Indi clearly making contact with the ball well before tangling legs with German midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick before the floodgates opened during the final few minutes as the home side added undeserved gloss to the scoreline.

Speaking to the media following the encounter, Lambert said: “I really think we have been hard done by today, because the lads were absolutely first class!

“We have come out before this, not hit those levels and managed to take something from the game, so of course this is a difficult one to take.

“I thought we were absolutely top drawer all over the field today, we defended well, we looked threatening on the attack and went close to taking the lead ourselves before they scored."

“(Xherdan) Shaqiri had a couple of chances which went close, he hit the post, and Badou had one late on too - our general play was first class, it really was.

“Since I arrived here the performance levels on the whole have been outstanding and I really mean it when I say the lads couldn’t have given me anymore.

“We just need that little bit of luck which we aren’t getting at the moment, but that will change.”

He added: “This result is difficult to take but we need to keep bouncing along because we are playing well - if we keep doing what we have done today then we will be fine.”
