National Service For Trio

Courtney Ward, Lexie Harrison, Beth Roberts

THREE Stoke City Ladies were bestowed the honour of representing their country this week.

Lexie Harrison, Beth Roberts and Courtney Ward all played for the England Colleges FA national team at Loughborough on Wednesday afternoon.

Defender Ward was understandably delighted to get the call. “It’s such an honour,” the 18-year-old said. “I enjoyed every minute.”

Ward, a product of the Stoke City RTC, added: “I think it’s every footballer’s dream to represent their country and I’m extremely grateful for the experience.”

Left back Roberts, another graduate of the RTC, has started every first team game for the Ladies this season whilst midfielder Harrison is a recent signing from Crewe Alexandra.

The three internationals combine their time with playing for Stoke City with studying at Newcastle-under-Lyme College.

The trio started in the team’s exciting 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town’s under-21 side in the FA WSL Academy League Cup.

Despite the scoreline, the national side lost on aggregate and will now go into the Plate section of the competition, where they will face either Manchester City or Liverpool.
