Manager mulls over options to replace Tom Ince...
GARY ROWETT says that an opportunity knocks for one of his attacking players this weekend with a sizeable void left by the injured Tom Ince.
The 26-year-old underway surgery on Tuesday to correct a hernia problem which will mean he will be out of action until at least after the international break.
The manager knows it’s a blow to lose Ince but feels he has a number of players to choose from who can adequately fill the space and grasp their chance in the side.
Speaking to stokecityfc.com in the build up to Saturday’s clash at Nottingham Forest, Rowett says the time had come for the winger to clear up his issue and is confident that he has the strength in depth to deal with his absence.
“With Incey not able to perform at his maximum level it always made it difficult to carry on so it was the right time for him to have the surgery,” Rowett expressed.
“We certainly want Tom to be performing like he was at the start of the season when he was probably our most dangerous attacker on the pitch.
“It gives someone else a chance though and we’ve got the likes of Sam Clucas who can play out there, as well as James McClean and Mame Diouf.
“It’s important that we find the right balance at the weekend in terms of our team selection. It will certainly give an opportunity to at least one player to come into that attacking line.”
