Potters capture Vokes

Sam Vokes

STOKE CITY are delighted to announce the deadline day signing of Sam Vokes from Burnley.

The experienced frontman has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal and becomes the Club’s fourth permanent acquisition of the January window after the Potters paid an undisclosed fee for the sought-after striker.

Manager Nathan Jones said: “Sam is a player of real pedigree, he has been promoted from this level and he’s an experienced international and Premier League player.

“To get it done is something totally different to anything we have and we think he’s a marquee player for this level.

“We know he’s a good character so he’ll add something to our dressing room and we’re bringing him in because of his goal-scoring pedigree and what he does.”

Chief Executive Tony Scholes added: “Sam’s record speaks for itself and we are delighted to have been able to bring him to the Club. He will bring a different aspect to the attacking options at Nathan’s disposal.”

Vokes arrives at the bet365 Stadium boasting proven Championship pedigree having played an integral role in two of Burnley’s promotion winning campaigns to the top-flight.

He netted 21 times as the Clarets joined the elite back in 2014 before scoring a further 16 two years later when the Lancashire side made an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation in 2015.

In total Vokes, who has also represented Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth earlier in his career, scored 62 times during his hugely successful spell at Turf Moor, with his final effort coming against Newcastle United in November.

The forward undertook his medical at Clayton Wood on Thursday morning and will link-up with his new teammates for training on Friday before travelling to the KCOM Stadium for this weekend’s showdown with Hull City.
