Potters Make Two Alterations

Glen Johnson

MARK HUGHES made two changes to his starting line-up for the visit of Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Following last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United and injuries in defence, Glen Johnson and Ramadan came into the side to fill gaps vacated by Kevin Wimmer and the ineligible Kurt Zouma.

Jack Butland retained his spot in between the sticks for a 11th consecutive start and marshalled a shuffled back three containing Erik Pieters, Bruno Martins Indi and Johnson.

Mame Diouf and Ramadan provided the width in wing back position, with Darren Fletcher and Joe Allen providing the midfield steel.

Spanish star Jese and Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri were played in a more advance role and tasked with providing support for lone frontman Maxim Choupo-Moting.

On the substitutes bench, young defender Harry Souttar was included in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time, while there was a return for Ibrahim Afellay after a long layoff due to injury.

Stoke City: Butland; Johnson, Martins Indi, Pieters; Diouf, Fletcher, Allen, Ramadan, Jese, Shaqiri; Choupo-Moting. Subs: Grant, Souttar, Tymon, Adam, Afellay, Crouch, Berahino.
