Rowett Receives Karanka Praise

Aitor Karanka and Gary Rowett

AITOR KARANKA has heaped praise upon Potters boss Gary Rowett as the pair prepare to do battle for the second time this season.

The Potters make the short journey across the A50 tomorrow afternoon bidding to extend their unbeaten run on away soil to six matches and avenge September’s dramatic 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat at the City Ground.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Karanka spoke of his admiration for the City manager and backed him to lead his side to a genuine promotion charge between now and the end of the season.

“It will be really tough and we had the experience in the cup, when we were winning 3-0 and everyone thought the game was over.

“Then they almost equalised the game so they have a very good squad and a very good manager.

“Our biggest mistake will be to underestimate them, because they have a lot of experienced players and a good coach."

“I think they will be near the top at the end of the season because it is difficult for every single team, when you are relegated, to settle into the Championship.”

He added: “But they are improving and if the manager has the time, they will do well.”
