Illness and injury threaten key pair's cup participation...
RYAN SHAWCROSS and Joe Allen are doubts for this weekend’s Emirates FA Cup third round tie at Shrewsbury, manager Gary Rowett has revealed.
Skipper Shawcross (pictured) was sent home ill from training today, while Allen is nursing a knock he picked up in the New Year’s Day Championship defeat at the hands of Bristol City.
Both men will be monitored closely before the Potters make the relatively short trip to face the League One Shrews at the Montgomery Waters Meadow stadium (kick-off 12.30pm).
Ryan Woods was also feeling under the weather today but Rowett is hopeful he will be fit to face his former club at the weekend.
Shawcross and Allen are, however, more of a concern. “Ryan Shawcross went home ill with a really bad temperature so we hope he’s ok,” he explained, “and Joe Allen is nursing an injury as well.
“We’ll check on them in the morning but as it stands at the moment they are struggling ahead of Saturday.
“Ryan Woods wasn’t feeling great either but we’re less worried about him and hoping he’s going to be ok.
“So we’ve got two or three bumps and bruises that might not make the game but it’s an opportunity for the ones that get a chance.”
