Ward In Charge

Gavin Ward & Joe Allen

GAVIN WARD will referee his second Stoke City fixture of the season when the Potters welcome league leaders Leeds United to the bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

The Surrey-based official was in charge of the side’s clash at Sheffield United early in the season when Joe Allen struck a late free-kick to claim a point at Bramall Lane.

That match-up is one of 23 that Ward has so far overseen in six different competitions in 2018/19. In total he has brandished 72 yellows and one red, whistle awarding three spot kicks.

While the official is no stranger to City, you have to go back to 2015 for his last Leeds United encounter, a 1-0 win home for the Whites over Preston North End.

Meanwhile, his most recent encounter of any kind was the Emirates FA Cup third round clash earlier this month between Aston Villa and Swansea, a tie won 3-0 by the Swans.

Assisting Ward on Saturday will be Mark Pottage and Graham Kane, with Oliver Langford acting as the fourth official.
