Welcome Ryan

Ryan Woods

RYAN WOODS has today joined Stoke City from Brentford on an initial loan with a view to a permanent switch in January.

The 24-year-old midfielder is the Club’s ninth signing of the summer following Peter Etebo, Benik Afobe, Adam Federici, James McClean, Tom Ince, Ashley Williams, Sam Clucas and Cuco Martina in checking-in at the bet365 Stadium.

Manager Gary Rowett said: “Ryan is a player that we’ve admired for a long time. He’s the type of player the squad has been crying out for, a defensive midfielder that can get us playing with a range of passing and the ability to bring other players into the game.

“He’s hungry and at the age of 24 he feels as though he has something to prove.”

Chief Executive Tony Scholes added: “We are pleased to have been able to add Ryan to the squad. He’s an exciting young talent who has extensive knowledge of the Championship.”

Born in Norton Canes in Staffordshire, Woods launched his career with Shrewsbury where he won two Player of the Year awards and was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year after helping them clinch promotion to League One in 2015.

He joined Brentford later that same year and has been one of their stand-out performers in the Championship in recent seasons.
