City forward gives thoughts on his new role in the starting XI...
MAME DIOUF admits he is still coming to terms with his wing-back role despite impressing in that position during pre-season.
The Senegalese international arrived at the bet365 Stadium three years ago as a proven striker, but has since been deployed in numerous other positions.
He has largely featured either in his favoured striking role or out on the right wing, but has also, impressively, filled in at full-back over the course of the past 18 months.
Mark Hughes has however revealed that the 28-year-old is a serious contender to start the new campaign as a right wing back, after shining in that role with his pace, power and tenacity on the right hand side of a back five.
"I am a striker so it is hard for me to understand, but he must see something in me," he laughed whilst speaking to Stoke City+.
"It is very difficult because I haven't ever seen myself as a right back or a wing-back, I think the manager has tricked me."
"I thought that I would just be filling in initially when I was first played in this role, but I am still here now.
"I just want to play football though, so am happy to try anything that the manager feels is right - we will see how it goes."
