Peter

Etebo

Number #8, Position Midfielder
Peter Etebo
  • Date of birth: 09/11/1995

Stoke City new boy Oghenekaro Etebo broke off from his World Cup preparations to become the Potters’ first signing of the summer.

The 22-year-old midfielder is in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the Finals in Russia and is looking forward to Group D games against Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.

He already has 14 senior caps to his name and came off the bench against England at Wembley earlier this month.

Etebo, who has signed a five-year City contract after making a €7.2million move to the Potteries, has plied his trade in his native Nigeria, Portugal and Spain.

A box-to-box midfielder, he launched his career with Warri Wolves and scored 23 goals in 64 league appearances which brought him to the attention of Portuguese outfit Feirense.

He joined them on a free transfer in January 2016 but had to wait until April to make his debut due to work permit issues. Etebo made 45 league appearances, scoring seven goals, and found himself playing in La Liga in the second half of the 2017/18 season. He joined Las Palmas of Gran Canaria on loan and made 12 top-flight Spanish appearances.

He made his senior international debut in 2013 and was a member of the Nigerian squad that took part in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. He made a stunning impact, scoring four times in a dramatic 5-4 win over Japan.
