Alex Neil moved to the bet365 Stadium at the end of August 2022 after a successful six-month spell with Sunderland during which time he guided the Wearside club to promotion to the Championship – the third such success of his managerial career.

Neil, who masterminded Norwich City’s rise to the Premier League in 2015 and secured promotion for Hamilton Academical in his first job, signed a three-year contract.

Neil, who had already taken charge of 400 league and cup games prior to his move to the Potters, made his managerial name in his home country with Hamilton by guiding them to promotion to the Scottish Premiership in his first full season in charge.

He joined Norwich in January 2015 and within six months had secured a Premier League return for the Canaries via the play-offs.

Neil then had a near four-year spell in the Championship with Preston North End and joined Sunderland in February of 2022.
