Tommy Smith became a Stoke City player in the 2019 summer transfer window when he joined from Huddersfield Town.

The right back had spent the past seven years at the John Smith’s Stadium where he became a popular figure in the dressing room and on the terraces.

His all-action displays were a contributing factor in the Terriers winning promotion to the Premier League in 2017, upon when he was appointed captain of the club.

Following Town’s relegation at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, the Warrington-born defender sought a fresh challenge and penned an initial three-year deal with the Potters for a fee of £4million.

He made his City debut at home to Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the 2019/20 season, and went on to play 32 times in all competitions for the first team, scoring four goals.

A further 41 appearances followed in 2020/21, including one as captain against Gillingham in the EFL Cup, as he secured his spot on the Potters’ right flank, scoring twice and contributing three assists.
