Stoke City midfielder Daniel Johnson was frustrated the Potters left Millwall with no points after creating several second-half chances.

The Jamaica international acknowledged Alex Neil’s side were second best in the first 45 in South London, though he took encouragement from the volume of chances City created in pursuit of an equaliser.

“Going off the first-half, we didn’t deserve anything because they were the better team, not necessarily in terms of football, but they fought harder than us,” Johnson explained in his review of the clash at The Den.

“In the second-half, we implemented our game on them and they really struggled.

“How we have not scored today, I don’t know, but they’re the little things in this league that will cost you points.

“On another day we probably score three or four goals and everybody forgets about the first half but that wasn’t the case today.

“We created numerous chances in the second-half, enough to come away with at least a point, I think that’s the positive.”

New signings Wouter Burger and Mehdi Leris were handed their Potters debuts in the second-half, while forward Tyrese Campbell return from injury to feature for the first time this season.

And Johnson believes that the second-half performance provides reason for optimism.

“We have got a really good team,” he added. “I know people keep saying we are a new team, give us time, and ultimately that time will run out at some point.

“I am sure if we play more games like we played the second half going forward, then we’ll find ourselves in a really good position.”
