Tom Cannon has been shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Month award for October.

The 21-year-old made the headlines at the start of last month when he scored four goals in the Potters’ 6-1 success at home to Portsmouth.

The frontman curled in a right-footed free-kick to open the scoring at the bet365 Stadium, before he hit three left-footed strikes in an eight-minute spell either side of half-time.

He rifled home his second after latching onto Sam Gallagher’s pass, drilled in from the spot to claim a hat-trick, and swept the ball into the far corner for his fourth.

In scoring a quartet of goals, Cannon became the first Potter to do so since Peter Thorne netted four against Chesterfield 24 years ago.

The frontman is named on the shortlist alongside Cardiff City’s Rubin Colwill, Borja Sainz of Norwich City and Leeds United midfielder Ao Tanaka.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

The winner will be announced on Friday, November 8.
